Australian singer-songwriter Guy Sebastian recently completed his first tour in over 12 months performing songs from his forthcoming album – ‘Like It Like That’.

The tour played theatres around the country including Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne, with Melbourne based Powa Productions the official lighting, audio, staging and logistics supplier.

Powa’s lighting designer, Simon (Junior) Johnson’s scheme featured a selection of warm and subtle tones on stage, contrasted by sharp beams of cross light, complete with a star effect backdrop. All of this was geared towards creating the appropriate moods to compliment Guy Sebastian’s music.

Junior elected to used 8 x Robe ColorSpot 700E AT’s and 8 Robe ColorWash 1200 AT’s as the main spot and wash lighting fixtures. Also supplied were iLED Star Drapes for the back of the stage, LED PARs cans and Robe Hazers for atmospheric effects.

Junior has been using Robe products for about 5 years and says, “I chose the Robe 700s for quick their zooming, which is great for live gigs. The ColorWash 1200 AT’s were picked for their brightness and wide colour spectrum, which is so dynamic that it actually reduced the amount of fixtures needed”. Four of the ColorWash 1200s were positioned on the deck and utilised for the low level cross lighting which produced a nicely rounded and even field of light when combined with the overhead units. The other 4 were used on the front bar for ‘specials’ and key lights, highlighting Sebastian and the band.

Junior operated the lighting using an Avolites Pearl desk. He comments that he “Couldn’t be happier” with the performance of all the Robe fixtures. He specifically likes the brightness of the workhorse ColorWash 1200 AT’s, particularly with the PC lens fitted, and loves the quality of the chunky beam that this also produces.
