20 Robe ColorSpot 1200 AT’s were used by lighting designer Charley Guest for KIIS-FM’s Wango Tango Music Festival , a star-studded showcase of chart recording stars including Ludacris, Will Smith with DJ Jazzy Jeff, Black Eyed Peas, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson, Lindsay Lohan and the Backstreet Boys to name but a few.
The event was staged in the Angel Baseball stadium, Anaheim, California – home to the Los Angeles Angels. It was presented by KIIS-FM (LA’s #1 Hit Music Station) in conjunction with Clear Channel Communications and producer Ford Englerth, in front of a live audience of 70,000.
Lighting equipment was supplied by California-based Stage Tech, who have enjoyed a long working relationship with Ford Englerth via Clear Channel.
In addition to Guest, others on the creative and visual team included lighting director Paul George of Joyce & Associates, programmer and board Operator Craig Caserta and Ed Motts who oversaw the video elements. Crew chief was Gave Grayson and master electrician was Eric Profaca.
The ColorSpot 1200 ATs were all placed upstage of the large lighting rig and used for spectacular beam, movement and bold colour effects.
They were chosen for many reasons, explains Stage Tech’s Account Executive & Staff LD Craig Gaff. Reliability was a major one, plus the“Punch and power” of the fixture.
However the primary reason for using the Robe ColorSpot 1200 AT was because“Combining the colour mixing facilities and the exceptional gobo pallet, it’s possible to create a visually stunning show WITHOUT it looking like every other show out there using those other 1200 Watt spots” says Gaff. He is adamant that the ColorSpot1200 AT’s gobo pallet and the fixture’s general versatility is one of its biggest selling points. Wango Tango 2005 was run on a Whole Hog II console with a wing.
Stage Tech is a full service lighting company, stocking a large number of the ColorSpot 1200 ATs as well as conventional lighting, control, truss, rigging & staging.
Since buying the first batch of units, Stage Tech has used the ColorSpot 1200 ATs for events starring artists such as Sting, Christina Aguilera, Santana, Kiss, Duran Duran, Alanis Morissette & John Mayer.
