José Luis Campos is a freelance LD based in Mexico City whose interest in lighting started almost before he could walk ... inspired by his father who also worked in the show lighting business. His brother Alejandro has also made lighting his career as a programmer and operator ... So in the Campos family, you can definitely say that lighting is ’in the genes’!!!
José Luis started his professional career in lighting as a technician so he could learn the basics of all the technical elements … and then worked his way up from there to where he is now.
This grounded start has been very helpful in his career. It has enabled José Luis to appreciate the importance of designing rigs that are practical to tour and rig in a venue and also gain the respect of his peers because he can see things from a technical as well as a creative perspective.
José Luis’ work encompasses shows and events of all types - from corporate events to live music and theatre / performances. He works extensively throughout Mexico and Central America and also the US.
He was introduced to Robe three years ago by his brother Alejandro who is also a big fan of the brand.
In Mexico currently the most used Robe products are the MMX Spot and LEDWash 600 and 1200s and these also feature in Luis’s designs.
In Robe’s LEDWash series he likes the zoom and the flexibility of having individual ring control of the LEDs and being able to produce some special effects with these.
He is LD for popular band Flans, and recently used LEDWash and MMX Spot products for their show in Mexico City which were supplied by Prolight (Jose ‘Jimmy’ Herrera’s rental company). He was so impressed that he now specs Robe as the moving light of choice for all his shows.
As for the MMX Spot, he likes the optics, the dual graphics wheel and the wide range of effects "I never run out of options" he says.
He comments that there’s been an increase in the amount of Mexican rental companies stocking Robe over the last year, which is also due to the very proactive efforts of Distributor Vari Internacional who have been involved with Robe since 2012, and have engaged in a big push of the brand in the Mexico, which is well known for its love of music and live events.
One of his works in the near future utilizing Robe products will include lighting for leading pop band Rio Roma at DF's Auditorio Nacional.
José Luis is also working on a project in Chile for which he has requested Robe, and is looking forward to a busy year in 2014 … with many more chances to use the latest Robe technology.
Czech moving and LED lighting manufacturer Robe lighting s.r.o. and Australian distribution company Jands have reached an amicable agreement whereby …
